The annex for a child under 15 — Anlage KI

Source: arbeitsagentur.de — Link last checked: 23.09.2026

Anlage KI – the annex for a child under 15

The Anlage KI is the child sheet, and its first line leaves no room for doubt: one annex for each child in the Bedarfsgemeinschaft who has not yet reached fifteen. Three children means three annexes, not one sheet with three names on it. A person who has reached fifteen gets the Anlage WEP instead.

The current version has five pages, stamped Jobcenter-KI – 04/2026, with sections A to E.

A and B – the child

Your own details first, as the applicant, then the child: name, date of birth, place and country of birth, nationality, sex, the Rentenversicherungsnummer where one exists or has been applied for, the steuerliche Identifikationsnummer, and whether the child has a guardian.

The tax identification number arrives by post after a birth and is meant to be kept. If it cannot be found, ask the Finanzamt for it before starting.

C – status

Whether the child holds a valid residence title, whether benefits under the Asylbewerberleistungsgesetz are being paid and until when, the central register number, and whether a Verpflichtungserklärung exists — an undertaking by someone to carry every cost of the stay. Each of these is answered with a copy of the document attached.

D – the situation now

These are the questions that pull further annexes in, and where most of the delay comes from:

  • your relationship to the child.
  • whether a parent lives outside the Bedarfsgemeinschaft. If so, the Anlage UH3 goes with it.
  • whether the child lives alternately in two households.
  • whether the child is at school, the date of starting school, and whether there are costs for schoolbooks and exercise books.
  • whether school support for this year has already been applied for elsewhere.
  • pregnancy, which brings the Anlage UH2.
  • a medically necessary special diet, which brings the Anlage MEB.
  • an unavoidable particular need, for instance travel costs for contact between separated parents, which brings the Anlage BB.
  • a stay in hospital or a rehabilitation facility, and its dates.

The child income question – field 36

The form asks it outright, and lists what counts: Kindergeld, Kinderzuschlag, maintenance, earnings from work, a Waisenrente, an accident pension, interest and capital income.

The proof must show both what the income is and when it arrived. The figures themselves belong on the Anlage EK; this field is the declaration that they exist.

Child benefit is income. That is the single point most often assumed to be an exception, and it is not one.

E – before now

The date the child entered Germany if the child lived abroad, and whether benefits have already been applied for or drawn in the last three years.

Mistakes that keep happening

  • One sheet for several children. The form rules that out in its own words.
  • Filling in a KI for someone who has turned fifteen. That is a WEP.
  • Leaving Kindergeld out because it is paid by a different office.
  • Skipping the question about a parent outside the household, so the file waits for a UH3.
