The housing and heating annex — Anlage KDUSource: arbeitsagentur.de — Link last checked: 23.09.2026
Anlage KDU – the housing and heating annex, filled in
The Anlage KDU is the sheet the Jobcenter uses to work out what it pays towards your housing and heating. The main application on its own does not carry that information: without this annex the housing figure stays empty and the decision covers living costs only.
When it is needed
It goes in with the main application, and again whenever something about the home changes: a move, a rent increase, or the yearly heating statement landing in the letterbox. The form says as much in its own first line: fill it in if you have costs for Unterkunft und Heizung.
The current version runs to three pages, stamped Jobcenter-KDU – 04/2026, with forty numbered fields across seven sections, A to G.
What to have ready
- the Mietvertrag
- or a Mietbescheinigung from the landlord
- the latest Heiz- und Betriebskostenabrechnung
- the Gebührenbescheid if you own the property
The form asks explicitly for copies, not originals. An original that goes in does not come back.
Section by section
A and B – who you are and where you live
Name, date of birth, and the number of your Bedarfsgemeinschaft if you have one. Then the address, how many people live there — counting yourself — the year the building went up, the number of rooms, kitchens and bathrooms, the total floor area in square metres, the part you occupy, the part let to someone else, the part standing empty and the part used commercially.
C – renting
Here the figures separate: Grundmiete without service or heating charges, then Nebenkosten without heating, then Heizkosten, then any other housing costs. If the contract is an all-inclusive rent, it belongs in the Pauschalmiete field alone and must not also be split across the others.
D – owning
The number of dwelling units, then what the property costs: loan interest, heating, property tax, water and waste water, refuse charges, chimney sweep, street cleaning, boiler servicing and building insurance.
Read the wording closely: Schuldzinsen ohne Tilgungsraten — interest without capital repayments. The part of the instalment that builds ownership is not a housing cost in law.
E – how the place is heated
The type of heating, what you cook with, and how the hot water is produced: centrally, or by a boiler in the flat. This is not a formality — water heated in the flat can open a claim for more, and the form points at its own note 28.
F – paying the landlord directly
You may ask the Jobcenter to transfer the rent to the landlord instead of to you. It wants the name, the address and the twenty-two character IBAN. Many people choose it and sleep better for it.
G – signature
Date and signature, or the guardian signing where the applicant is a minor.
Mistakes that keep happening
- Leaving yourself out of the count of people in the home.
- Splitting an all-inclusive rent across three fields, so it is counted twice.
- Entering the whole loan instalment instead of the interest alone.
- Sending originals instead of copies.
- Sitting on the yearly heating statement. It is handed in by itself, when it arrives.
