German Citizenship Test Questions – Part Two
This is part two of the walkthrough of the German citizenship test questions, continuing directly from part one.
The questions here go deeper into the political system and the constitution — the places where most mistakes happen, not because they are hard but because the official wording is unfamiliar.
What the video explains
- The questions that follow on from part one
- Questions on the constitution and the federal system
- How to phrase the right answer in front of the case worker
- The common confusions about how a question is worded
How the test runs – the figures as BAMF states them
- 33 questions on the paper
- Sixty minutes to answer them
- Seventeen correct answers or more is a pass
- Three of the questions concern the federal state you live in; the rest are federal
- And the fee for taking part is twenty-five euros
The question bank – how large is it really?
The official catalogue holds 310 questions: 300 general ones and ten for each federal state. Your paper is therefore drawn from a known bank rather than from the unknown — which is good news for anyone preparing, because the preparation has a boundary that can be reached rather than a sea with no shore.
A two-week preparation plan
- Split the three hundred questions across twelve days: twenty-five a day
- Read the question and answer from your head before looking at the answer — retrieval is what fixes it
- Put every question you got wrong on a separate list and review that list on its own
- Give day thirteen to your state's ten questions; they are few and learned in one sitting
- On day fourteen: a full mock test at the BAMF centre under real conditions, sixty minutes without stopping
- If your score falls below twenty-five out of thirty-three, work through your list of errors again before registering
Three mistakes that fell people who know the answer
- Reading the question quickly and answering a similar one instead — the wordings are close on purpose
- Memorising the answer in the language of the explanation rather than of the test, so the official phrasing confuses
- Leaving the state questions until the night before; they are the easiest on the paper and the easiest to forget
The official form and the responsible office
Practise the official wording at the BAMF test centre, which holds the complete official catalogue including your own state's questions:
Frequently asked questions
Are the two parts enough to pass?
They are good preparation, but the complete reference is the official BAMF question bank. Combine the explanation with the official practice.
Are there questions specific to my federal state?
Yes, a number of state-specific questions are added to the federal ones.
Please note: This is preparation. The official questions and pass conditions come from the responsible authority.
